Best time to visit Quindío: month-by-month weather

Quindío can be visited year-round: it sits in the heart of coffee country, with an almost constant mild, spring-like climate. Still, picking the right month helps you avoid heavy rain and crowds. This guide sums up what you need to know.

Quindío’s climate in general

Quindío has a mild mountain climate, with temperatures usually ranging from 12 °C at dawn to 25-28 °C at midday, depending on altitude. Towns like Salento and Filandia feel cool; Armenia, La Tebaida and Montenegro are a bit warmer. There are no seasons like in other countries: the year splits into dry and rainy periods.

Dry and rainy seasons

  • Driest: December-March and June-August. Best for hiking, Cocora and outdoor activities.
  • Rainiest: April-May and October-November. Rain falls mostly in the afternoon; mornings are often clear.

Important: even in the dry season a downpour can happen, and during the rainy season there are sunny days. Always pack a rain jacket.

High and low season (tourism)

High season (more people and higher prices) coincides with holidays: Easter week, June-July, year-end and long weekends. For calm and better rates, travel on weekdays and outside those dates. If you travel in high season, book accommodation and tours in advance.

What to pack any time of year

  • Layered clothing: a t-shirt for the day and a jacket for the night.
  • A rain jacket or light poncho.
  • Comfortable shoes or boots for trails.
  • Sunscreen and a cap (mountain sun is strong).
  • Repellent for forest areas.
